Chairman, COER Roorkee

Shri J.C. Jain has devoted himself as the Chairman of “College Of Engineering Roorkee (COER)” as well as that of “Seth Roshan Lal Jain Trust”. He obtained B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Gwalior in 1969 and M.Tech in Production Engineering from BITS, Pilani in 1971. He founded “Texplas India Pvt. Ltd.” in 1975 for advancements in the field of manufacturing and is currently contributing as the Chairman and Managing Director of “Texplas Group of Industries”. He also established “VIE Infratech India Ltd.” in 2012. Shri J.C. Jain has contributed his might as the President, SIDCUL Industrial Association, as State Chairman, CII and in several other roles. Aside from being an active member of “Digamber Jain Samaj” at National level, he is also serving as the President of “Shri Shambhed Shikhar Development Committee”, of “Sedans Kendra Badrinath Ji” and of “Vatsalya Vatika”.

With the magnificent success and outstanding accomplishments of College Of Engineering Roorkee (COER), his vision has now become the synonym of quality technical education in India. As a recognition of his contribution towards Education and Industry, he has been honoured with various awards by several leading societies and institutions, some of them being: Udyog Patra Award(1983), Udyog Ratna Award (1990), Uttarkhand Ratan-Award (2008) etc. In 2014, “Sammedachal Foundation” has conferred him the title of “Jain Shiromani” and “Jain Samaj Ratan”.

Prof.(Dr.) Narendra S. Chaudhari
Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand

Prof.(Dr.) Narendra S. Chaudhari is currently working as Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun and he has also been with Indian Institute of Technology, Indore since Aug 2009 as a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. He had been Director of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur (M.S.) since June 2013 till June 2018 (five year term).  He had additional charge of Director of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal from March 2016 to May 2017.  Since Sept 2010 to June 2013, he was Dean – Research and Development (Dean – R&D), IIT Indore.  Since 2001 to July 2009, he was with the School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.  From 1990 to 2001, he was Professor of Computer Science in M.Sc. DRDO Program, Ministry of Defense (Govt. of India) at Devi Ahilya University, Indore and from 1988 to 1990, he was a Reader in M.Sc. DRDO Program, Ministry of Defense (Govt. of India) at Devi Ahilya University, Indore.  Before 1988, he was with Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT, Mumbai, as a Senior Software Engineer.

Narendra was part of six-member academic delegation of State Visit of Honorable President of India to Sweden and Belarus for the duration of 31 May to 04 June 2015. Further, He was also part of academic delegation of State Visit of Honorable President of India to People’s Republic of China for the duration of 24 May to 27 May 2016.  He was part of FICCI’s higher education delegation to Germany, France and Netherlands for the duration of 22-27 June 2015.  He represented VNIT, Nagpur in the first BRICS-Network University (NU) Conference at Yekaterinberg, Russia held on 06-09 April, 2016, where he signed Protocol Agreement on behalf of VNIT, Nagpur for being part of BRICS-NU. During 20-24 Sept. 2017, he visited St. Petersberg Mining University where he initiated VNIT, Nagpur’s collaboration with Russia.

Prof.(Dr.) S P Gupta
Director General, COER Roorkee

Professor Satya P. Gupta joined as Director General of the College of Engineering Roorkee (COER) in November 2018. He has been associated with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (formerly University of Roorkee) for 42 years where he joined as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering Department in 1976, became Reader in 1982 and Professor in Jan. 1994. Prior to joining UOR, he served Jyoti Limited, Vadodara as designer of high voltage induction motors operated directly from 3.3 KV, 6.6 KV and 11 KV supply, for about two years. He did B. Sc. Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Engineering College Dayabagh, Agra in 1971, ME with first position in 1973 and Ph. D. in 1986, both from Electrical Engineering Department of University of Roorkee and post doctoral work from University of Bristol under Commonwealth award in 1989-90. He also did teaching and research at University of Puerto Rico (USA) in 1990-91. After his superannuation in 2015, he was Emeritus Fellow in the Electrical Engineering Department for a period of three years.

Professor Gupta in his career, worked on various positions of administrative responsibility at UOR/IITR such as Associate Dean, Development & Planning (July 1997 to March 2002), Professor-in-charge, Guest House and Institute Nodal Officer (Feb.2002 to Dec. 2004), Professor-in-charge Planning, Coordination and Liaison (Jan. 2005 to to Sept. 2006), Head of Electrical Engineering Department (Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2008), Coordinator, IIT Mandi Coordination Committee (Mar. 2009 to Jan. 2010), Dean Planning IIT Mandi and Dean, Greater Noida Extension Centre of IIT Roorkee (Jan. 2010 to Jan. 2011), Dean Alumni Affairs (Jan. 2011 to Dec. 2012) and Deputy Director (Jan. 2013 to Jan. 2015). As Head of Department he facilitated starting of 5-year IDD program in collaboration with University of Western Ontario, Canada and a Grant of Rs. 2.50 Crores from DST under FIST scheme. He was also associated in developing a video film on Research Frontiers at IIT Roorkee as well as in documenting a Supplement on History of Roorkee University.

Professor Gupta made a very significant contribution in research in various areas of Electrical Machines, Drives and Power Electronics. He published about 75 research papers and guided 11 PhDs. He was also associated in research on Condition Monitoring of Electrical Machines where he also worked on two sponsored research projects awarded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). He received best paper award from the Institution of Engineers (India) twice. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and Life member of the Indian Society of Technical Education.

Professor Gupta has travelled to Switzerland, Singapore, China, USA and UK for Academic assignments, Conferences, delivering invited lectures as well as for alumni networking. In May 2019, he travelled to Russia with a delegation of COER for signing an MoU between COER and Kuban State Agrarian University (KubSAU).
